What It Takes To Change

So you want to make a career change? For some, change is easier than others. I want to share some key competencies (skills) that help in preparing for change. Let's do this!

  1. Dealing with ambiguity-this is someone who adapts well to change, can shift gears, doesn't loose their cool when things aren't clearly defined and can handle some risk

  2. Career ambition-this is when you know what you want in your career (or at least know what you want next), make things happen for yourself, doesn't wait for doors to open and is able to sell yourself for available opportunities

  3. Action-oriented-someone who doesn't mind putting in the hard work, has energy for overcoming challenges and is willing to seize more opportunities than others

  4. Learning on the fly-if you can learn quickly when you are facing new problems, you are relentless about learning, open to change, enjoys the unfamiliar and willing to experiment to find solutions

Lombardo, M., Eichinger, R. (2015) FYI: For Your Improvement. Korn Ferry.

If you find that the four skills listed above, describes you...you probably are pretty well positioned to handle change. If you look at the list above and say "heck no" this is too much...the great news is these are skills that can be developed to those that are willing. If you are interested in being more open and flexible to change, let's do this together!
